Oranta Scarf

This traditional square scarf is made of natural Italian silk and features a unique print inspired by the mosaic from the outstanding ensemble of 11th-century monumental art in St. Sophia's Cathedral. The scarf showcases the Oranta herself - the life-giving patroness of Kyiv, standing in defense of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people for a thousand years. Just like in the huge six-meter mosaic image, the Oranta appears with her hands raised upwards - a gesture of a strong intercessory prayer for the people, her joint struggle with them for truth and goodness. The combination of white and gold in her attire is a metaphor for purity and immortality, while the purple-golden cloak-maphorion, red boots, and numerous cross-stars are attributes of higher authority. The colorful ornaments framing the scarf are transferred from the columns around the image of the Oranta in St. Sophia's, symbolizing the tree of life, endless in its weaving.
